Platenso - Building a platform for enhanced societal research related to nuclear energy in Central and Eastern Europe

The objective of PLATENSO is to provide a proposal towards establishing the legal base for a European Entity on Socio-Economic matters linked to nuclear technology and to develop recommendations for research strategies in Central and Eastern European countries.

Type:

FP7 programme of the European Union

Description:

With 19 partners from 13 countries, the project aims to enhance the capabilities of research institutes in the Central and Eastern European PLATENSO countries to take part in EU research with respect to governance, social and societal aspects, on the field of nuclear issues.

Key steps of the project:

  • lessons learned from earlier projects, about what is the state of knowledge in societal, social and governance issues, will be reviewed and summarized;
  • research institutes will be mapped and in each participating countries a network will be built of them;
  • research strategies will be formed for research in governance, social and societal issues in which participation in EU programmes is an integrated part;
  • the strategies will be tested with case studies to make sure they are feasible to implement;
  • the legal base for a European Entity on Socio-Economic matters linked to nuclear technology will be established; this Entity will have a potential to overcome the barriers that still exist for taking socio-economic matters fully into account.

The project is funded by the European Union.
