Joint Project (Nuclear risks & public control-2019-20)

In the Joint Project, European NGOs and research institutions cooperate on safe and sustainable energy issues with a focus on anti-nuclear activities in Central and Eastern Europe. The long-term goals of the Joint Project are a nuclear phase-out in Europe, no new-build nuclear power plants, no renaissance of nuclear energy, no lifetime extension of old reactors, safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste and adequate public participation.

The Joint Project launches new activities every year since 2003. The Joint Project themes for 2019/20 are the following:

  • The impacts of climate change on nuclear risk and supply security,
  • Reality Check of National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP),
  • Nuclear facilities and programs,
  • Follow-up on radioactive waste and spent fuel issues,
  • Information exchange and networking.

Aims of the project are to provide accurate information to the public and policy makers on the above issues; to promote alternatives to nuclear energy; to enable and strengthen the participation of civil society in terms of monitoring nuclear industry in the region and to enforce stakeholder dialogue and community involvement in case of nuclear investments and the related decision-making processes.

The Joint Project is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.
