Nuclear power plants under construction - 2022

This report provides an overview of nuclear power plants under construction globally in March 2022. According to the official statistics of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), 52 reactor units were under construction in March, that is, first concrete had been poured but they were not yet connected to the grid.

A significant proportion of nuclear power plants under construction are facing difficulties and are in delay according to the original plans. Paks II still does not belong to the category of nuclear power plants under construction and thus it is not included in the report. In Europe there are only plans to build new nuclear power plants but no new project has started over the past year (during the same time, six nuclear power plants have been shut down). Additionally, in May 2022, Finland terminated the contract with Rosatom for building Hankihivi-1 because of Russia's war in Ukraine.

Energiaklub is planning to update the report annually.
