Unstable support schemes jeopardise the Hungarian solar market

Energiaklub publishes for the third year in a row the results of its survey on the current state of the Hungrian solar energy market. The report based on stakeholder interviews, a questionnaire survey and available statistics underlines that companies struggle against non-effective and unpredictible investment support schemes.

The survey carried out with the involvement of the most important stakeholders of the market analyses what moves the market of solat thermal collectors and PV cells in Hungary, who are the most important vendors, what kind of products do companies offer. We provide information on the legal and economic environment of the market, and analyse what influences the demand and what could raise interest in solar technologies.

Our 2011 survey confirms last years' trend: more and more actors enter the market, thus competition sharpens. Demand is highly price elastic which allows for companies offering low quality services enter the market. Unpredictable support schemes for individuals control the market as favourable support boost the demand while the lack of support causes a collaps of order situation. 97 per cent of respondents of our questionnaire survey state that there is a clear relationship between current support schemes and demand for thermal collectors and PV cells.

The publication serves with useful information for all those who are interested in current data on the Hungarian solar energy market, whether it is investors, producers, NGOs or decision makers. The Hungarian Building Engineers Association supported Energiaklub in carrying out the survey.
