Energy Efficiency
The cheapest and cleanest energy is the energy we do not need to use in the first place. Energy efficiency means that our homes, public institutions, businesses and the economy as a whole can operate with less energy—while delivering the same, or even better, results. This is not about giving things up, but about better buildings, more efficient heating and cooling systems, energy-saving appliances and smarter energy use.
Hungary has enormous potential for energy savings through energy efficiency. Poorly insulated buildings, outdated heating systems and wasteful technologies mean that a great deal of energy is used unnecessarily. Renovating homes and public buildings, replacing windows and doors, improving insulation, modernising heating systems and energy efficiency investments in businesses can all reduce energy bills, improve comfort and lower the country’s dependence on imported energy.
Energy efficiency is not only in the interest of individuals; it is also a matter of national economic importance and climate protection. Lower energy use means less need for imports, fewer fossil fuels and less pollution. This is why energy efficiency is one of our most important tools in responding to energy crises, high utility costs and climate change. Real utility bill reduction starts with not wasting energy.
