NEGAJOULE 2020 - Estimating the energy saving potential of the residential building stock in Hungary

The objective of the project was to support the national climate, energy and development policies by providing the missing data and background analysis on household energy use and saving potentials.

Type:

National Office for Research and Technology

Target group:

decision makers, researchers, experts

Description:

Providing statistical basis for energy savings potential analysis

In Hungary rather limited statistical data related to residential energy use were available. Therefore, collection of new, primary data was inevitable for successfully carrying out the analyses. In 2010, the missing data were collected through a nationwide, representative survey of 2000 households. In the framework of the survey, data on the characteristics of the building stock as well as those of energy use were collected.

Carrying out bottom-up analysis in order to estimate the energy savings potential of the household sector

Based on the data collected in the first phase and from other sources as well the potential analysis was carried out.  The main tasks were: defining energy savings measures, setting up the adequate model, estimating technical and economic potential, calculating costs and avoided costs of energy savings and presenting the results and methodology in a research report.

Outcomes of the project

The data of the survey were published on the project website,

The results of the potential analysis were presented in a research summary,

The project and its outcomes were presented in various articles, press releases and conferences.
