Why do we say no to the Paks Pact?
Energiaklub's 11 points about the agreement signed in Russia.
1. Hungary surely does not need a new nuclear power station right now.
2. This irresponsible pact indebts the Hungarian people on par with foreign currency loans..
3. The two new reactors further increase Hungary's unilateral energy dependency on Russia.
4. The Moscow deal does not serve the interest of Hungarians. It merely serves the power interests of a small exclusive group.
5. The public was completely excluded from the decision.
6. We, our children and grandchildren will all pay the costs of the new nuclear power station - and the interests too.
7. The decision does not have a professional basis. Alternatives were not even investigated.
8. Paks2 will not reduce energy costs, it will not increase the country's competitiveness.
9. Incremental investments, like the expansion of the electric grid, will cost further thousand of billions of Forints.
10. Paks2 has only alternatives. This investment takes resources away from renewable energy and energy efficiency investments.
11. This decision violates European norms, sells the country out and consumes our future.
Therefore, we say no to the Paks Pact!
